DET: determiner
Determiners are words that modify nouns or noun phrases and express the reference of the noun phrase in context.
The determiners of Bambara include :
- nín ‘this’
- ò ‘that’
- dɔ́ ‘some’
- bɛ́ɛ ‘all’
- dɔ́rɔn ‘only’
All determiners, exept dɔ́ron, can function as pronouns.
Examples
*Mùsó dɔ́bɛ́ dɔ́kili dá. “A (some) woman sings”.
- Dɔ́ bɛ́ dɔ́kili dá. “Someone sings”.
Dɔ́rɔn can modify the whole clause, in this case, it functions like an adverb.
Example
*_Fàntá yé dɔ́kili dá dɔ́rɔn kà tàa só. ‘Fanta just sang a song and then went home’.
