Definition
Pronouns are words that substitute for nouns or noun phrases, whose meaning is recoverable from the linguistic or extralinguistic context.
In Tatar, some pronouns also function as determiners (e.g., бу
“this”, ул “that”),
these words are always marked according to their usage (PRON
or
DET
).
Examples
- personal pronouns: мин, син, ул, без, сез, алар “I, you, he/she/it, we, you (plural), they”
- reflexive pronoun: үз “oneself”
- demonstrative pronouns: бу, шул, ул “this, this (mentioned), that”
- interrogative pronouns: кем, нәрсә “who, what”
- indefinite pronouns: кемдер, нәрсәдер “somebody, something”
- total pronouns: һәркем, һәрбер “everybody, everything”, барыбыз “all of us”
- negative pronouns: беркем, һичкем “nobody”
- reciprocal pronouns: бер-беребез “we each other”
