feature which expresses modality is a feature of auxiliaries and verbs.
The Ind
and Imp
values are only carried by instances of verbs following the English morphology, e.g teaches, teaching, taught…
Ind
: indicative
Example
- you say grandma need push “You said grandma needs to be pushed”
- dat means you be student “That means you are a student”
Imp
: imperative
Example
- you want test me ? give me sample “You want to test me ? Give me a sample”
Jus
: jussive
The jussive is used to exhort someone to do something. It is carried by the auxiliary make.
Example
- make you dey tink of oda people “you should think of other people”
Cnd
: conditional
The conditional mood is used to express conditions that are dependent upon a hypothetical circumstance.
Example
- I for show you serious “I would have shown you, seriously”
Nec
: necessitative
The necessitative mood indicates the need to carry out a certain action.
Example
- I gats go get di colour. “I need to go get the color”
Opt
: optative
The optative mood indicates a desire for something to occur.
Example
- I con dey go pray sey make God change my life!”. “I was praying for God to change my life”
Pot
: potential
The potential mood indicates the ability to carry out an action.
Example
